Taiwan - Taichung

Photos to come...

31st December – Wuqi and Liphao Land, Taichung
After breakfast we uber-ed to Liphao Land. Went without a hitch except that we were changing rooms so had to pack up and store our stuff for the day. Very Chinese breakfast which we struggled with but I did have delicious sardines there! Got to Liphao Land about 9.45am which was perfect as things not too busy there. Did a few little things and then there was nothing for it but for Hugh to get to the roller coaster. I waited an hour or more and watched about six terrifying rides before john came and then the kids. Vertical drop at one point which looked hideous and John said it pretty much was.
Had a great day going on the Mine Express mini rollercoaster, the rafting on the river, the Splash Mountain thing, the Sonic ride – very rough, the Spider and the Ferris Wheel. Gorgeous at twilight. Had lunch there at a café which was very good actually. Had corn chicken soup which was great.
Tried to Uber home which was ultra-stressful as there was a big party starting for New Year’s Eve and the Uber couldn’t get to us as the road was closed. We walked down to the road closure in the end and it was chaos but the Uber had gone and we eventually found a taxi to take us to a station from where we caught another taxi that took us all 23kms home to Wuqi! It cost $300 plus $700 NTD which was $50 so felt very fortunate to get home. The Uber was $25 in the morning so very good value all round.

Had dinner and beer from the 7/11. Slept soundly grateful for the hotel and a roof over our head and being home. Happy New Year.

 1st January

Hermit Crab Inn, Wuqi – Twinstar Hotel, Taichung – Rainbow Village – Twinstar Hotel  44kms
Had breakfast and headed to Taichung Central. Great ride. Quite a hill in the middle getting up over into Taichung but also a great descent down and such a cool place. We loved it. Found the hotel easily and it was gorgeous! So lovely after the previous one. Dropped off our stuff and had a coffee at the 85 degrees before heading out to the Rainbow Village. It was magical. Turned out to be a superb ride and easy to find. Lucy and I spent ages just taking photos and looking round. Met Rainbow Grandpa which was very cool. Such an inspiration. Very hot and lovely out there.

Rode back and later had dinner – noodles outside on the street which by surprise were cold which we weren’t sure about but tasty all the same. Haagen Das icecream place after that which broke the bank but was great. Lovely.
